Easy-peasy Cheats Potato Wedges

It's not rocket science... anyone can make potato wedges. However, these are like little bursts of light amongst boring brown potato boulders.

Imagine a gorgeous crisp tasty surface. Below, an exquisite fluffy centre.

And all you need?

A packet of Fajita spices, some sea salt, a good glug of olive oil, a plastic bag and a few potatoes (I used five).

Chop the potatoes into eighths and pop in your plastic bag. Heap three table spoons of your Fajita powder into the bag with a big glug of oil and a pinch of salt then seal the bag and give it a good shake.

Please do make sure, however, that you use a proper plastic bag and not a Tesco one with holes in...

Moving on. Place in a baking tin and pop in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius for an hour or until golden brown with crispy skins.

I served them up in a separate bowl with ketchup. They were SUPPOSED to be with my yummy chicken wrapped in parma ham, and stuffed with mozzarella with a side salad. The Gentleman however, liked them so much that they were gone before the chicken was even ready. The meal ended up being potato wedges to start, followed by my mozzarella stuffed chicken wrapped in parma ham on a bed of salad with a balsamic glaze.

Silver Fox Cake

*Do not panic. I haven't baked George Clooney.*

The Gentleman started his new job on Monday and I haven't seen him since Saturday (the longest time we've spent apart since we moved to France) so I'm cooking him dinner! He's continuously reminding me that I've never baked a cake for him, so this cake is dedicated to him. No Ben, I'm not saying that you're going grey.

May I present to you the Silver Fox Cake. It's silver, it's sexy, it's a classic and it's more than a little bit naughty!

To make your own Silver Fox, you're going to need;

4 large eggs
225g/8oz margarine
110g/4oz caster sugar
110g/4oz light brown sugar
6 tablespoons crème fraiche
170g/6oz self-raising flour
55g/2oz cocoa powder
a little pinch of salt

For the icing...

3 packets white chocolate fingers
Dr Oetker shimmer spray in silver
1 punnet raspberries
1 punnet blackberries
200g bar Dairy Milk Chocolate
100g icing sugar
50g butter
Enough raspberry/strawberry jam to spread in the centre of the cake

Start by preheating the oven to 180 degrees Celsius, butter and line two sandwich tins with greaseproof paper.

Put your margarine, caster sugar, brown sugar, crème fraiche and pre-beaten eggs into a bowl and whisk together using an electric hand whisk until combined and lighter in colour.

Sift together your self-raising flour, cocoa powder and salt and fold in to your mixture a third at a time.

Separate your mixture between the two tins and pop in the oven!

Bake for 30-40 minutes or until springy to the touch and a knife comes out clean. Wrap in cling film to keep the moisture in the sponge.

While the cake is cooling, prepare the icing;

Pop the chocolate, butter and icing sugar with a splash of water into a glass bowl over a pan of boiling water. Stir while it melts, and leave to cool.

Take the bottom half of your cake and spread a layer of jam on top. Scatter half your raspberries over the jam and pop on the second half of your cake.

Take your icing and coat the cake with it, then grab your chocolate fingers and put them one after the other all the way around the cake.

Next, grab your silver spray and go wild. Unless you want your fruit to be silver too, spray the fingers THEN put the fruit on top!

Et Voila!

All you need is a single silver candle to finish it, then present it to the person of your choice. Or alternatively, you could just break into it yourself...

Bill's

No, I haven't got a new boyfriend. But, my mum has a restaurant crush. If you don't know what a restaurant crush is, it's a certain place that you fall in love with and keep returning to. Helplessly.

I first heard about Bill's from miss India's blog (here) and I felt bad admitting this to Muma DSF, as I felt I was destroying her secret! However, I had never physically been to Bill's so it was a pleasure going with one of my favourite people.

As soon as I walked in, it reminded me of Tom's (hello blast from the past!) This is chain style though. I'm absolutely LOVING gorgeous 'different' chain style restaurant's at the moment, please say this is going to be the death of fast food restaurants. New trend alert!

It's on Gandy Street in Exeter (I went home for a mini break) which, for all you Harry Potter fans, is where J. K. Rowling got the inspiration for Diagon Alley.

No potions for us. Although, with pots like these, we could have had any kind of liquid substance hidden beneath the lid!

Muma DSF had Darjeeling tea (oooh I saaaay) while I had English Breakfast (the posh way to say a Builder's cuppa.) As hard as I try, I can't stand herbal teas.

P.s. I think somebody got a spell wrong and shrunk the condiments... they're soooo cute!!

I couldn't resist the menu, you all know I can resist anything BUT temptation. Especially if temptation comes at about 4pm and consists of a little doughy slice, smothered in thick (heart attack inducing) clotted cream and fresh English strawberry jam. *please accompany viewing pictures with a harp playing in the background*

I thoroughly enjoyed them anyway.

Bill's is filled to the brim with lots of incredible goodies, and the staff are incredible. So friendly!

We saw plates of yummy food go past us. And, with four new Bill's restaurants opening in London and 19 Bill's already around the UK - you really have no excuse not to go. Find your local one here.
